Former All-Star closer Perez retires

KANSAS CITY -- Former All-Star closer Chris Perez has retired from baseball.

Perez, whose retirement was listed on Triple-A Norfolk's transaction page a few days ago, was working out at the Orioles' spring facility in Sarasota, Fla., as he served a 50-game suspension for use of a drug of abuse.

Perez saved 124 games while posting a 3.33 ERA in five seasons with Cleveland and is just three years removed from his last All-Star selection in 2012. He also spent time with the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate this season before joining the Orioles' organization.

In seven Major League seasons, Perez had a lifetime 3.51 ERA.
