Schilling recovering after surgery for cancer
Former Red Sox ace and World Series hero Curt Schilling underwent surgery for an undisclosed form of cancer on Monday.
Shonda Schilling, who overcame cancer in 2001, posted the following message Monday on her husband's Facebook page.
"Curt is in recovery. Everything went well. [Tuesday] we meet with the oncologist for the next wave."
There's been no word yet from the Schilling family on how that meeting went, but Curt's daughter Gabby expressed optimism via Twitter on Tuesday morning.
"Dads surgery went really well! Now he's in recovery #GodBless."

- Shonda Schilling (@ShondaSchilling) February 12, 2014In a statement last week through ESPN, the network for which he serves as a broadcaster, Schilling announced his cancer diagnosis.
In the days leading up to surgery, Schilling expressed thanks to his many well-wishers on both Facebook and Twitter.
"Overwhelmed at the well wishes, and prayers. Bless all of you. No pity or sympathy needed, I've been beyond blessed. I'm ready for this," Schilling tweeted on Feb. 7.
The 47-year-old Schilling won 216 games in the Major Leagues and was part of three World Series-winning teams -- the 2001 D-backs and the '04 and '07 Red Sox.
Schilling has maintained residence in the Boston area since the end of his playing days.
