Four unbeatens roll at Little League World Series
Tennessee, Texas teams both victorious in Sunday's action at Williamsport
Undefeated clubs from Tennessee, Texas, Panama and Japan won their Sunday games and remained undefeated in the tournament.
The team from Goodlettsville, Tenn., beat the hard-hitting team from A's outfielder Jonny Gomes' hometown of Petaluma, Calif., by a score of 9-6, taking advantage of a clutch two-run homer by Brock Myers. Tennessee was able to overcome Petaluma despite the California club hitting four home runs in the game. Petaluma now must play an elimination game against New Jersey.
The other team from the United States that hasn't yet lost in Williamsport, Pa., is the team from San Antonio, Texas, which scored six runs in the fourth inning to roll past New Castle, Ind., for a 13-3 win on Sunday. Jordan Cardenas hit a two-run homer for San Antonio.
Meanwhile, another undefeated team in the tourney, Panama, cruised to an 8-3 victory over the Canadian team.
The Panama team, which hails from the city of Aguadulce, got two homers from James Gonzalez, who drove in six runs, including a grand slam. They rolled past the team from Vancouver, British Columbia, after scoring six runs in the second inning to break the game open.
Canada, which had scored 13 runs in Friday's victory over Mexico, struck out 13 times.
The high drama of the day was saved for the last game, where Hajime Motegi's two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth gave the team from Tokyo a 2-0 victory over the club from Taoyuan, Chinese Taipei, to continue Japan's unbeaten streak in Williamsport.
The taut thriller featured great pitching, with a total of 30 strikeouts.
