Winston named a third-team All-America

Florida State University's Jameis Winston, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, is also receiving some recognition for his work on the baseball diamond.

Winston, who led the Seminoles to an undefeated season and a national championship on the gridiron, was made a third-team All-America selection in Baseball America's preseason college baseball preview, released on Monday.

Winston was listed as a utility player, and he's as much a dual threat in baseball as he is at quarterback. Selected by the Rangers in the 15th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the switch-hitting Winston batted .235/.377/.345 in 41 games and posted a 3.00 ERA in 27 innings over 17 relief appearances for the Seminoles in 2013.

Among Baseball America's other notable All-America selections is North Carolina State left-hander Carlos Rodon, MLB.com's No. 1 Draft prospect. He's joined on the first team by the following top Draft prospects: East Carolina right-hander Jeff Hoffman (No. 2), North Carolina State shortstop Trea Turner (No. 5), Vanderbilt right-hander Tyler Beede (No. 6), Indiana catcher Kyle Schwarber (No. 14), Virginia outfielder Derek Fisher (No. 15) and San Francisco outfielder Bradley Zimmer (No. 19).

The second team includes top Draft prospects Louisiana State University right-hander Aaron Nola (No. 11) and Kennesaw State catcher Max Pentecost (No. 20).

Baseball America compiles the list by polling Major League scouting directors who vote based on performance, talent and pro potential. According to the publication, 11 members of last year's preseason All-America teams were drafted in the first round, with two others taken in the supplemental first round.
