Halos add Torrealba to catching depth

Veteran heads to big league Spring Training on Minor League deal

The Angels have signed veteran catcher Yorvit Torrealba to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training, a source confirmed to MLB.com on Friday.

Torrealba, 35, played in 61 games last year with the Rockies and hit .240 over 196 plate appearances. He's also played for the Giants, Rangers, Padres, Mariners, Brewers and Blue Jays during his 13 seasons in the big leagues. Torrealba has appeared in at least 61 games in each of the past 11 years, dating back to 2003.

With Chris Iannetta and Hank Conger expected to platoon at catcher for the Angels, Torrealba would likely provide Minor League depth along with Luis Martinez and John Hester. Martinez signed a Minor League deal earlier this offseason, and Hester is out of options.
