Hawk Harrelson on MLB Now

Die-hard baseball fans were glued to their televisions on Thursday afternoon. And not because of a game, but instead the much-anticipated debate between Chicago White Sox play-by-play man Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and MLB Network's Brian Kenny on the show MLB Now.

Both men (especially Hawk) left us with some quotables (the most memorable being: "TWTW" = The Will To Win). Which I predict will be said around the Fan Cave and among many other baseball fans for months to come. Both men also made valid points. I still think there was something missing here.

As we saw at the end of last season with the MVP race between Miguel Cabrera and Mike Trout, the "new school" believed it should've gone to Trout, while the "old school" believed it was Miggy's for the taking. Again, both had valid points but most chose to see why their choice deserved it instead of why both guys were legit contenders.

In my opinion, you NEED both. You can't rely strictly on advanced stats nor "the eye test." It just doesn't work. Thursday, Harrelson stated "sabermetrics have gotten a lot of people fired," but so has using strictly your instinct. This is a debate that will likely go on forever. Hopefully, both of these train of thoughts can live in unity.
