Pence to miss time with oblique injury

Giants outfielder placed on DL; Aoki activated

Hunter Pence will miss at least two weeks with a moderate strain of his left oblique, as the Giants placed the right fielder on the 15-day disabled list Thursday.

Pence suffered the injury on his last swing during Monday night's game, a lineout to center field in the ninth during the Giants' 2-1 loss to the Cardinals. An MRI performed Tuesday confirmed the diagnosis.

"Those two weeks on the DL will give us a lot of information," GM Bobby Evans said Thursday. "Hopefully he'll be ready when that time ends. If not, I hope it's not much longer than that."

Outfielder Nori Aoki was activated from the seven-day concussion DL on Thursday to take Pence's spot.

"He's got a moderate strain, which is great news," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of Pence after Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Cardinals. "It's the news we thought. He's probably going to need a couple weeks."
