Indians invite Aguilar, four others to camp

Heralded prospect among 17 total non-roster invites to Spring Training

The Indians extended non-roster Spring Training invites to five players on Thursday, including heralded slugging prospect Jesus Aguilar.

The Tribe will also welcome to camp right-handers Preston Guilmet and Matt Langwell, southpaw Giovanni Soto and catcher Roberto Perez, bringing the club's non-roster total to 17.

Pitchers and catchers report to the Indians' complex in Goodyear, Ariz., on Feb. 11.

Aguilar, 22, batted .280 with 15 homers, 71 RBIs and 31 doubles in 127 contests between Class A Carolina and Double-A Akron last year. The 12th-ranked prospect in the organization according to, Aguilar's output earned him a spot in the 2012 All-Star Futures Game.

Guilmet, a 25-year-old reliever, tallied 24 saves in 29 chances for Akron. He was named to the Eastern League Postseason All-Star team and played in the Arizona Fall League Rising Stars Game.

Langwell, 26, compiled a 4-0 record and 2.74 ERA in 42 appearances out of the bullpen for the Aeros and Clippers. He logged 81 strikeouts in 69 innings.

Perez hit .212 in 95 contests with Akron. The 24-year-old nabbed 41 percent of baserunners attempting to steal.

Soto, acquired from the Tigers in July 2010 for Jhonny Peralta, went 6-9 with a 3.93 ERA in 22 starts for Akron last season. The 21-year-old tossed the second no-hitter in Aeros history on July 15 and is expected to pitch for Puerto Rico in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
