Jay-Z certified to represent MLB players
Two other members of Roc Nation Sports agency also accredited
Jay-Z, one of the most successful hip hop artists in the world, can now officially negotiate contracts for Major League players.
The Grammy Award-winning rapper has been certified as an agent, the Major League Baseball Players Association confirmed Thursday, confirming the report originally tweeted by ESPN's Darren Rovell. He was previously certified by the NBA Players Association.
The Sports Business Journal additionally noted that two other executives from Jay-Z's fledgling agency, Roc Nation Sports, may also negotiate baseball deals. To date, the biggest name the company represents is Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, who can become a free agent at the end of the season.
Jay-Z's desire to become involved in representing professional athletes became public in April, when he joined forces with CAA Sports. MLBPA executive director Michael Weiner said at the time that Roc Nation's application would be considered after it was determined whether the entertainer's minority interest in the NBA Brooklyn Nets created a conflict.
