Jocketty, Reds formulating postseason rosters

CINCINNATI -- With a little more than a week remaining before they begin the National League Division Series vs. a yet-to-be known opponent, the Reds are making evaluations and holding discussions regarding the postseason roster.

General manager Walt Jocketty must submit a 25-man roster, and there will be some names left off.

"It will be tough. It's also nice because we have some depth this year," Jocketty said on Wednesday. "But it will be tough, especially with the pitching when we get down to the end. We've talked about it, and we'll talk about it some more. We'll make our final decision next week when we know who we're playing."

Depending on whether they get the No. 1 or No. 2 seed, the Reds could likely play either the Giants, Braves or Cardinals in the NLDS.

"It could depend on who we play and how guys match up against different teams," Jocketty said of his club's roster.

Reds manager Dusty Baker has been, and will continue to be, involved in the meetings as he recovers from a minor stroke.

"We had a meeting yesterday and talked a little bit more about it today," Jocketty said. "We won't get into the final stuff until next week in St. Louis."

Since all teams can reset their rosters after each round of the postseason, the Reds will have a "taxi squad" of extra players who could be added. In 2010, they sent some players to the team complex in Goodyear, Ariz., to work out and stay sharp.

"We'll do that again," Jocketty said.
