Joe Mauer Gets Engaged

Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer has long been considered one of Minnesota's most eligible bachelors. Well, no more. As reported by TwinCities.com, Mauer on Saturday proposed to fellow Cretin-Derham Hall (also the alma mater of Super Jack Hannahan) graduate Maddie Bisanz. The two reconnected over the past few years and are now engaged.

Charley Walters:

Mauer, 28, the Twins catcher, proposed to Bisanz, a St. Paul nurse, in Sanibel, Fla.

"A place that is special to both of us," Mauer said Sunday from Florida. "We couldn't be happier, and we're both really excited."

No wedding date has been set. The couple have been friends for about seven years and have been dating for about 1-1/2 years.

"I was hoping for a yes, and she said yes," Mauer said when he proposed. "I'm getting to marry my best friend."

Big week for family news in baseball, huh? First, San Francisco Giants teammates Nate Schierholtz and Barry Zito were each married on the same day. Then Mauer's former (and potential 2012) teammate Michael Cuddyer and his wife welcomed twins into the world.

As with the others, we at the MLB Fan Cave extend many congratulations to Joe and his fiancee.
