Sparks, Vlad join star-studded ASG Softball roster

While fans are making important All-Star roster decisions of their own, Major League Baseball on Tuesday announced that fan favorites Jordin Sparks, Urban Meyer, Cole Swindell, Olivia Holt, Chad Lowe, Rollie Fingers, Ozzie Smith and Vlad Guerrero have been added to the rosters for the 15th annual MLB All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game on July 12 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team players Tim Horton and Todd Reed also will participate. The game will be televised by ESPN immediately following the Home Run Derby on Monday, July 13.

Sparks, the 2007 "American Idol" winner, is a Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum artist who played in the 2011 softball game during All-Star Week in Phoenix and sang the National Anthem before that year's Midsummer Classic at Chase Field. Meyer is the head football coach at Ohio State and has led his schools to three national championships (Florida in 2006 and 2008, and OSU in 2014). Swindell is a breakout country singer who won ACM's New Artist of the Year Award. Holt stars on Disney Channel's "I Didn't Do It." Lowe, brother of Rob Lowe, is a Cincinnati native and Emmy Award-winning actor and director.

Smith, the Cardinals' Hall of Fame shortstop, is the only person to appear in every All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game since the first one in 2001 at Seattle.

Previously announced players include: entertainment icon Snoop Dogg; Grammy Award-winning rapper Macklemore; Josh Hutcherson, who plays Peeta in "The Hunger Games" franchise; Anthony Anderson, executive producer of the hit ABC show "black-ish"; comedic actor Rob Riggle; Miles Teller, who plays Richard Reed/Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming "Fantastic Four" movie; Charissa Thompson, co-host of EXTRA and FOX Sports Live; ACM winner and platinum-selling country chart-topper Justin Moore; Cincinnati native Nick Lachey; Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton and ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit.

Also committed to play are Reds legends Sean Casey, Paul O'Neill, Eric Davis and Aaron Boone; Hall of Famer Andre Dawson; and two fixtures in this event -- Red Sox legend Fred Lynn and Olympic softball gold medalist Jennie Finch.

The Snoop Dogg-Macklemore combination is still one of the most intriguing possibilities of this event. It was not long ago that the former went on a public rant about the way Grammys are handed out, following Macklemore's domination at the event. Snoop Dogg is tied for the most Grammy nominations (16) without winning. We also look forward to the possible sight of The Doggfather and The Toddfather hanging out on the same field, given that Reds third baseman Todd Frazier is a player spokesperson for All-Star Week.

The All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game is the second game of a doubleheader on All-Star Sunday, and tickets are available. Preceding the softball game will be the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which will air live on MLB Network, MLB.com and SiriusXM at 3 p.m. ET, featuring some of MLB's best young prospects from the U.S. and around the world.

The 86th All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS, and worldwide by partners in more than 200 countries via MLB International's independent feed.
