Longoria could return to camp this weekend

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Rays manager Joe Maddon hasn't spoken directly with Evan Longoria since the birth of Longoria's daughter Wednesday night, but it sounds like Longoria could be rejoining the club sometime this weekend.

"I expect to see him," Maddon said. "I haven't talked to him, but I think it should be fine. We'll find out. I am not concerned. … Even if he didn't make the weekend, it would not concern me, but I do expect to see him."

Once Longoria returns, he's not likely to immediately slot into games, as Maddon will give him a day or two to get back in the swing of things.

Longoria's girlfriend, Jaime Edmondson, was due to give birth April 1, but doctors advised to have labor induced six weeks premature.
