Lopez struck by batted ball, bruises pitching hand
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Javier Lopez and the Giants survived a scare Tuesday, when the left-hander sustained a bruise as he was struck on the back of his pitching hand by a short-hop batted ball.
Manager Bruce Bochy said that X-rays of Lopez's hand revealed no fracture.
The ball ricocheted and hit him in the chin, but that's not an issue as much as the hand," Bochy said. "We'll see how he is tomorrow."
Lopez is on Puerto Rico's provisional roster for the World Baseball Classic but has said that he'll stay in camp if he doesn't feel ready to compete.
