Manny set to play in Dominican Winter League
One year after he was told he was not allowed to play in the league because he was on the Major League inactive list, the 40-year-old veteran will suit up for Las Aguilas.
Ramirez signed a contract last spring with the Athletics and served the 50-game suspension that prevented him from participating in the Dominican League in 2011.
Ramirez, who chose to retire with the Rays in 2011 instead of serving the suspension, hit .302 but failed to homer in 17 games with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats after serving his suspension earlier this year. On June 15, Ramirez requested and was granted his release from the A's.
Ramirez is a career .312 hitter with 555 home runs and 1,831 RBIs over parts of 19 Major League seasons with five teams. In his '11 stint with Tampa Bay, he went just 1-for-17 over five games before announcing his retirement.
