Trumbo's HRs help D-backs power past Nats
PHOENIX -- Mark Trumbo hit a pair of home runs and drove in four as the D-backs pounded out 16 hits en route to a 14-6 win over Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals on Tuesday night at Chase Field.
The offensive fireworks came one day after the Nats had handed the D-backs an 11-1 loss. This time it was Arizona's turn, as David Peralta, Aaron Hill, Chris Owings and Nick Ahmed each turned in multiple-hit games to make a winner of Rubby De La Rosa (4-2), who added a hit and an RBI in his seven-inning, four-run effort on the mound.
"I think it was kind of exactly what we needed maybe after last night," Trumbo said. "Especially early on we made some stuff happen and that's kind of what we were looking to do at least."
It was a rough night for Strasburg, who allowed eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits in just 3 1/3 innings as he fell to 2-4.
"It certainly wasn't what he wanted," Nationals manager Matt Williams said when asked about Strasburg's outing. "The fact that he got through it and felt good physically is good. His fastball was good, but he didn't locate it. And he got beat on his offspeed pitches. But physically he's good and that's a positive sign for us."

Strasburg not on the mark: The right-hander had been taken out of his last start after three innings because of what proved to be a bad back. He didn't make it out of the fourth on Tuesday night, either. Trumbo chased him with a three-run homer, the second long ball against him in the game. A tale of two homers: Trumbo's first homer of the night was a towering shot that hit off the scoreboard just below the Friday's Front Row Sports Grill in left field. His second homer was more of a line drive that got out quickly to left. More >
Werth sets table for Harper: The Nationals have been hoping Jayson Werth gets going offensively. Coming into the game, he was hitting .186. But leading off the sixth after two hitless at-bats, Werth smacked a single to center. Bryce Harper followed with a two-run homer, his National League-leading 12th of the season.
Double threat: De La Rosa not only picked up the win, but he also collected his first career RBI when his fifth-inning single scored Hill. De La Rosa did see his scoreless-inning streak come to an end at 12 when he allowed a run in the third.

Nats history on hill: In the seventh inning, Nationals manager Matt Williams approached position players Clint Robinson and Tyler Moore and asked which one of them wanted to pitch the eighth. Robinson volunteered, and then became the first position player to pitch for the Nationals since the franchise moved to Washington. More >

The eight runs were the most off Strasburg in his career, coming in his 116th start.
UMPIRE FORCED TO EXIT EARLY
Home-plate umpire Kerwin Danley was forced to leave the game in the bottom of the second inning after taking a foul tip squarely off the mask. Danley was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital to be evaluated for a possible concussion. More >

Nationals: They close a three-game series vs. the D-backs, and their only visit this season to Chase Field, with an afternoon tilt on Wednesday at 3:40 p.m. ET. Left-hander Gio Gonzalez (3-2, 3.62 ERA) gets the start.
D-backs: The D-backs close out the three-game series with the Nationals, as well as their homestand, Wednesday afternoon at 12:40 p.m. MST at Chase Field, with Jeremy Hellickson getting the start. Hellickson is 0-1 with 7.36 ERA over his last three starts.
