Marlins Announce 25-Man Roster

Seven New Faces on Miami’s Opening Day Roster

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced their 2012 Opening Day 25-man roster.


The Club will open the season carrying 12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and five outfielders for the inaugural game at Marlins Park. Manager Ozzie Guillen has tabbed right-handed pitcher Josh Johnson to make the historic start.
The 25-man roster is as follows:


PITCHERS (12): RHP Heath Bell, LHP Mark Buehrle, LHP Randy Choate, RHP Steve Cishek, LHP Mike Dunn, RHP Chad Gaudin, RHP Josh Johnson, RHP Edward Mujica, RHP Ricky Nolasco, RHP Anibal Sanchez, RHP Ryan Webb, RHP Carlos Zambrano.

CATCHERS (2): John Buck, Brett Hayes.

INFIELDERS (6): Greg Dobbs, Omar Infante, Donnie Murphy, Hanley Ramirez, Jose Reyes, Gaby Sanchez.

OUTFIELDERS (5): Emilio Bonifacio, Chris Coghlan, Austin Kearns, Logan Morrison, Giancarlo Stanton.

15-DAY DL: RHP Jose Ceda (retroactive to March 26).

This year’s roster features six players who were not with the organization in 2011: Bell, Buehrle, Gaudin, Kearns, Reyes and Zambrano. In addition, this is the first time that Cishek, who was a fifth-round selection by the Club in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, has made the Opening Day roster.
