Midseason Predictions: American League

Preseason predictions are fun to do, and it is also fun to see where your predictions are at the halfway mark of the season. Below are my preseason AL predictions along with my predictions for the rest of the way!

Preseason AL East pick: Boston Red Sox.

Midseason AL East Pick: New York Yankees. It’s really unbelievable to me how good the Yankees have been in the absence of important players like Gardner, Rivera and Pettitte. I guess when you hit 20 more HRs than any other team in the league it works out in your favor. They may leave the rest of the East in the dust by September.

Preseason AL Central Pick: Detroit Tigers.

Midseason AL Central Pick: Detroit Tigers. The name “Sleeping Giant” comes to mind when I think of this team. They seem to be in the exact position as last year when they went on an unbelievable second half run. I expect a repeat performance.

Preseason AL West Pick: Texas Rangers.

Midseason AL West Pick: Texas Rangers. As I said in the preseason, until further notice, they are the best overall team in the league. I expect them to only get better as the season goes on.

Preseason AL Wild Card #1 pick: New York Yankees.

Midseason AL Wild Card #1 pick: Boston Red Sox. It is crazy to think that this team has done so poorly up to this point, and they are STILL within striking distance of a playoff spot. With Ellsbury and Crawford coming back, I expect them to go on a serious second half run in that crazy division.

Preseason AL Wild Card #2 pick: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Midseason AL Wild Card #2 pick: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. As good as this team is, they just are not as good as the Rangers. However, I do expect them to make noise in the playoffs.

Preseason AL Pennant pick: Texas Rangers.

Midseason AL Pennant pick: Texas Rangers. This team can do it all. I do not think that the Yankees will be able to depend on the long ball once the playoffs roll around. Expect to see some more World Series games in Arlington!

Preseason AL MVP pick: Miguel Cabrera.

Midseason AL MVP pick: Josh Hamilton. As great as Cano and Trout have been, I just have this feeling that Hamilton will continue to crush it in the second half. I like him to take home his second MVP.

Preseason AL Cy Young pick: CC Sabathia.

Midseason AL Cy Young pick: Justin Verlander. I see Verlander leading the second half charge that gets the Tigers to the Postseason again. I wouldn’t even count out a no-hitter for him down the stretch.

Preseason AL Rookie of the Year pick: Matt Moore.

Midseason AL Rookie of the Year pick: Mike Trout. He is a multi-tool player that has taken MLB by storm. He could sit for the rest of the season and still win this award easily.
