Hessman named PCL Player of the Week

HOUSTON -- Oklahoma City third baseman Mike Hessman was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week on Monday. He hit .423 with six homers, three doubles and 12 RBIs in his previous seven games entering Monday.

Hessman on Thursday became the second RedHawks player this season to record five hits, joining J.B. Shuck (April 28). In 16 games in May, Hessman was hitting .377 with eight homers and 14 RBIs. He is the active leader in career Minor League home runs, and his 339 homers are almost 100 more than Val Pascucci of Buffalo, who is second on the list with 242.

Combined with his homers from the Majors and Japan, Hessman has a total of 359 home runs since beginning his professional career in 1996.
