Auction raises more than $120,000 for SU2C
School visit from Harper, Rendon draws highest bid in Stand Up To Cancer fundraiser
A strong late-day surge in the final hours of MLB.com's auction nearly doubled the total money raised during the four-day event benefiting Stand Up To Cancer.
More than $120,000 was raised through the SU2C Auction, which took place in conjunction with the Winter Meetings and featured unique, once-in-a-lifetime baseball experiences that included private meetings with players and managers, and VIP treatment during activity-filled days at the ballpark.
The top attraction throughout the week was also the top-selling offer. Washington Nationals stars Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon will visit a child's school for lunch and a special kids' question-and-answer session, a package that went for $9,126.
The other top sellers were a meet-and-greet with Mets manager Terry Collins and watching a game with general manager Sandy Alderson, which sold for $7,060. Lunch at Del Frisco's with Phillies manager and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg netted $5,020. The Astros raised $4,075 with a package for 20 people that will include a one-hour batting lesson with Jose Cruz, meet-and-greets, autographs and a VIP tour of Minute Maid Park.
A one-day internship with the Yankees raised $4,040.
The highest number of individual bids was generated by the 2014 All-Star package, which offered two tickets to Fan Fest, All-Star Sunday, the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game next summer in Minnesota. A total of 48 bids came in for that prize.
The auction of 80-plus unique baseball items and experiences on MLB.com brought the total raised during the Winter Meetings auctions to more than a $250,000 in two years. The four-day auction, which was inspired by members of the baseball family who have been diagnosed with cancer in recent years, drew 1,364 total bids on a range of offerings from all 30 clubs, MLB Network, MLB Advanced Media and Stand Up To Cancer.
