MLB executive Solomon resigns

Jimmie Lee Solomon resigned from his role with Major League Baseball.

Solomon joined MLB in 1991 as director of Minor League operations and served as executive vice president for baseball operations from 2005-10. Solomon's duties in that role included supervision of Major League umpires until Joe Torre assumed those responsibilities.

Solomon also was responsible for the management of MLB's Urban Youth Academies and Minor League Operations and was instrumental in the development of the Civil Rights Game, as well as a range of other initiatives and special events aimed at baseball development, including the Futures Game.

"I want to thank Jimmie Lee for his 20-plus years of service to Major League Baseball and for the contributions he has made in a number of different areas throughout the game," said Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. "He was the point person in several successful Minor League Baseball negotiations and played a key role in our expanded minority and youth efforts. I wish him all the best as he pursues new challenges."
