Montreal commemorates 'Kid' by renaming street

The city of Montreal will rename a street in Villeray to honor Hall of Famer Gary Carter.

"The Kid" spent 12 of his 19 big league seasons with the Expos. The 11-time All-Star catcher slugged 324 home runs during his career and captured a World Series ring with the Mets in 1986. He died on Feb. 16, 2012, after battling brain cancer.

A section of Faillon Street will bear Carter's name.

The Expos selected Carter in the third round of the 1972 First-Year Player Draft. He played for Montreal from 1974-84 and finished his career with the team in 1992. Carter earned induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003.
