Betts may mash against Tigers

Mookie Betts (Red Sox): With 10 homers, 13 steals and 49 runs scored across 399 plate appearances, the outfielder has been a factor in many 2015 DraftKings contests. Betts has the skill set to contribute in multiple ways when he faces Justin Verlander, who has posted a 4.84 ERA since the outset of last season.

Kevin Kiermaier (Rays): The outfielder has produced pronounced lifetime splits, with a .780 OPS against right-handers compared with .537 vs. lefties. Kiermaier could reach base often or score multiple runs when he faces Orioles right-hander Chris Tillman, who has posted a 4.96 ERA and 1.45 WHIP during an uneven 2015 season.

John Jaso (Rays): Jaso -- who has hit .359 since returning from the disabled list on July 7 -- could improve on his lifetime .799 OPS against right-handers (.514 vs. lefties) at the expense of Tillman (career 1.32 WHIP).

Yoenis Cespedes (Tigers): Despite batting from the right side, Cespedes has hit righties well over the course of his career, posting a .790 OPS against same-sided hurlers (.770 against lefties). He could exploit a potentially advantageous matchup against Boston's Rick Porcello, who has struggled in 2015 (5.79 ERA, 1.5 HR/9 rate).

Brian McCann (Yankees): With 15 homers and 58 RBIs across 274 at-bats this season, the catcher has been among the most powerful players at his position. He could rip a roundtripper or drive in multiple runs when he faces Twins righty Phil Hughes, who has notched a 4.30 ERA and 1.2 HR/9 rate as a big leaguer.

Brett Gardner (Yankees): Hitting .299 with 10 homers, 65 runs and 15 steals across 383 plate appearances, Gardner has been among the most productive outfielders this season. Today he will be in position to display his power when he faces Hughes (1.7 HR/9 rate in 2015). Gardner could also swipe a base against Kurt Suzuki, who has allowed more steals this season than all but two catchers.

Carlos Gonzalez (Rockies): In his career, the outfielder has fared best against right-handers (.301/.364/.549 slash line) and at Coors Field (.332/.394/.611). Today he could drive in multiple runs when he hits at home vs. Reds righty Anthony DeSclafani (career 1.37 WHIP).

Nick Hundley (Rockies): Hundley has posted a lifetime .730 OPS against right-handers (.594 vs. lefties), and this season he has registered a .941 OPS when batting at his offense-inducing home park. The catcher could excel today, when he hits in Colorado against DeSclafani (career 4.53 ERA) and a Reds bullpen that sits 25th in the Majors with a 4.03 ERA.

Charlie Blackmon (Rockies): With 12 homers and 24 steals across 399 plate appearances, the outfielder has been a difference-maker in many 2015 DraftKings contests. He has the plate skills to excel at home against DeSclafani, and he has the speed to swipe a bag against catcher Brayan Pena, who has thwarted just six of 48 would-be basestealers this season.

Jay Bruce (Reds): With 129 homers since the outset of the 2011 season, Bruce has established himself as one of the most powerful sluggers in baseball. The lefty-hitting outfielder could rip a roundtripper or drive in multiple runs when he heads to homer-happy Coors Field to face righty Eddie Butler (career 5.25 ERA, 1.83 WHIP).

Joey Votto (Reds): In his career, Votto has mixed a patient approach with notable power to produce an impressive .317/.429/.548 slash line against right-handers. The first baseman has the skills to reach base often or score multiple runs at the expense of Butler and a Rockies bullpen that ranks last in the Majors with a 4.64 ERA. Of note: Votto and his teammates will attempt to put balls into play against a Colorado unit that ranks 27th in the Majors with a .676 defensive efficiency ratio.

Corey Kluber (Indians): Sitting third in the Majors with 159 strikeouts, Kluber has been a game-changer in many 2015 DraftKings contests. Today the right-hander will be in a terrific position to compile several strikeouts and quality frames when he works at home against a White Sox lineup that ranks last in the Majors with 310 runs scored.

Andrew Cashner (Padres): In his career, Cashner has excelled at pitcher-friendly Petco Park to the tune of a 2.44 ERA. The right-hander could continue to work effectively at home when he faces a Marlins lineup that ranks 26th in the Majors with a .666 OPS against right-handers and will operate without centerpiece Giancarlo Stanton, who is on the disabled list.

Dan Haren (Marlins): DraftKings participants who do not select Cashner could instead opt for his mound opponent. Today Haren will bring a solid season-to-date 3.46 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP into pitcher-friendly Petco Park to face a Padres lineup that sits 27th in baseball with a .662 OPS against righties.
