Phillies and Pitch In for Baseball & Softball equip Philadelphia Public High School student athletes
This past Wednesday, high school athletes from 40 local baseball and softball teams across the School District of Philadelphia received brand-new equipment from Pitch In for Baseball & Softball, thanks to a recent $40,000 Phillies Charities, Inc. grant dedicated to helping keep kids in the game.
Phillies front office volunteers packed bags filled with bats, helmets, baseballs, softballs, catchers gear, bases and more. Later that afternoon, the Phillies and PIFBS welcomed players and coaches from all 40 teams for brief remarks in Diamond Club; then, in the Phillies Clubhouse, players and coaches found their new equipment displayed in player lockers. Phillies ambassadors Mickey Morandini and Dickie Noles, as well as the Phillies Ballgirls, were also in attendance to help distribute the gear.
Since 2005, Pitch In for Baseball & Softball has made it possible for 2.6 million underserved children in all 50 states and 119 countries to enjoy the games they love. Over the past 20 years, the Philadelphia-based nonprofit PIFBS has donated more than $40 million worth of equipment, helping to break down barriers, promote environmental responsibility through equipment recycling, and bring the joy of play to underprivileged children around the globe.
