Phillies Honor Women and Girls in Sports
This past Wednesday, February 4, was recognized nationally as National Girls and Women in Sports Day. In order to honor this special day, female members of the Phillies front office held two great events to get girls in the game.
In the morning, female volunteers from the Phillies front office held a Play Ball clinic at Penrose School in Southwest Philadelphia. Over 120 students, grades 1-3, took part in activities that taught them how to pitch, hit, run and more.
In the evening, back at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies and special guests hosted a panel discussion for Urban Youth Academy and RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner-Cities) softball players, aged 13-18. Guests included Amy Fadool, Sports Anchor, NBC Sports Philadelphia; Caitlin Jackson, Director of Partnership Marketing, Athletes Unlimited; Renie Shields, Senior Associate Athletics Director, St. Joseph’s University; and Taylor Wilson, Community Relations Senior Coordinator, Philadelphia Eagles.
National Girls & Women in Sports Day was created in 1987 to honor the achievements of women athletes, coaches and leaders, and the power of sports to unlock their limitless potential.
