Pirates in exclusive club with 10,000 victories

DENVER -- On their march to the postseason, the Pirates reached a historic franchise milestone on Thursday. Pittsburgh's 5-4 victory over the Rockies was the 10,000th win since the franchise officially joined the National League in 1887.

The Pirates became the fifth club to record 10,000 or more victories, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The others are the Giants (10,859), Cubs (10,600), Braves (10,365) and Dodgers (10,166).

The Yankees entered their contest against the White Sox on Thursday closing in on the lofty plateau with 9,996 wins.
