Royals add righty Pino on Major League deal

The Kansas City Royals have signed Yohan Pino to a Major League contract, the team announced Monday.

The 30-year-old right-hander made his debut this past season on June 19, and although he struggled a bit in the big leagues (2-5 with a 5.07 ERA in 11 starts) with the Twins, he showed promise while excelling in Triple-A.

Pino went 10-2 with a 2.47 ERA with Triple-A Rochester and held opponents to a .180 batting average.

Along with Minnesota, Pino has pitched in the Cleveland Indians (2009-11), Toronto Blue Jays (2011-12) and Cincinnati Reds (2013) organizations.

To make room for Pino, right-handed pitcher Casey Coleman was designated for assignment.
