De La Rosa, D-backs frustrate Fish, snap skid
PHOENIX -- Rubby De La Rosa tossed seven innings of one-run ball to help the D-backs snap their season-long six-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Marlins at Chase Field on Monday night.
De La Rosa gave up five hits and walked a season-high five batters, but he induced four double plays and still managed to win for the first time since June 19. David Peralta drove in a pair of runs with a single in the third inning, and De La Rosa drove in a run of his own in the sixth.

"We want our guys to swing at strikes," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "If a guy comes in there, that may be the best pitch you get all night, and [Marlins starter David] Phelps was pitching very well and he was being very careful with everybody. So when you get one you can handle, you better put it in play, so [Peralta] did a good job with that."
Phelps suffered his second straight loss since moving back into the rotation, giving up three runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Derek Dietrich drove in the lone Miami run with a homer to lead off the seventh, as the Marlins lost their fourth game in a row.
"Fastball command's usually what I'm best at, and tonight it was just off the plate, off the plate, off the plate," Phelps said. "I was just putting myself in bad counts and [I've] just got to do a better job of getting ahead of guys."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Striking first: Peralta continued his hot hitting with a two-run single in the bottom of the third. Peralta, who has now reached in 22 of his last 23 games, lined a first-pitch fastball from Phelps into right field. Prior to Peralta's single, the D-backs were on the verge of wasting a scoring opportunity. Nick Ahmed led off the frame with a triple, but the next two batters were retired. Phelps then walked A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt to load the bases, which set the stage for Peralta.

Strong start for Rubby: De La Rosa found himself in an early jam as the Marlins loaded the bases with one out in the first inning, but from there the right-hander retired nine of the next 10 batters he faced, including a 6-4-3 double play to escape the first.
"I was working to keep the ball down, tried to make quality pitches and hit my spots," De La Rosa said. "That was the key today." More >

Rally killers: The Marlins hit into four double plays and stranded eight runners. In the first inning, they couldn't capitalize on having the bases loaded with one out, as Adeiny Hechavarria hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. Hechavarria also grounded into a double play in the sixth -- the second of three straight innings that featured a Marlins twin killing.

"He got double play balls, those were huge," Hale said of De La Rosa. "Pitching down ... when he pitches down, he gets those ground balls. When we can get those ground balls and let those infielders work, we're a much better team." More >
Dietrich's big fly: Dietrich led off the seventh with a blast to right field off De La Rosa. Dietrich homered three times in his first eight games of the season, but hadn't homered since hitting two against the Reds on June 20.

UNDER REVIEW
De La Rosa's third pitch of the game was up and in to Ichiro Suzuki, and it was initially ruled that the pitch hit the leadoff man in the right shoulder/upper arm area. However, after a one-minute, 32-second review, officials in New York saw the ball hit Ichiro's bat, and the call was overturned to a foul ball. On the next pitch, Ichiro grounded out.

WHAT'S NEXT
Marlins: The Marlins send Mat Latos to the mound for the second game of the series against the D-backs on Tuesday at 9:40 p.m. ET. Latos hasn't pitched since July 5 after getting scratched from his last scheduled start due to a sore right foot. The right-hander has a 3.32 ERA in nine career starts against the D-backs, but gave up six runs in 5 1/3 innings against them on May 21.
D-backs: Jeremy Hellickson will get the ball for the middle game of the three-game set on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. MST. The right-hander pitched well against the Marlins earlier in the year, allowing two runs over six innings. However, Hellickson hasn't pitched since July 8, when he was removed from the game with a blister on his right thumb.
