Strasburg's spring debut highlights today's slate

All but one of the 30 Major League clubs will be in action on Tuesday, with plenty of intriguing matchups and highly anticipated debuts on tap.

Eyes with be on Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg, who will make his 2014 spring debut against the Braves in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The game can be heard live on Gameday Audio at 1:05 p.m. ET.

Because the right-hander had surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow in October, Washington manager Matt Williams said on Monday that Strasburg will be limited to two innings, regardless of how well he pitches.

"We're not going to push him to three at this point, regardless of the pitch count," Williams said. "Right now it's just a matter of arm strength and getting everybody going. Once we get to four or five innings and arms start to get tired, then we'll get a better evaluation."

Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz will also make his first Grapefruit League start in a 1:05 p.m. matchup against the Rays. With Buchholz expected to pitch just one inning, left-hander Andrew Miller and right-hander Francisco Cordero are also scheduled to throw. Grady Sizemore, Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz, Mike Napoli, Xander Bogaerts and Will Middlebrooks are all likely to be in the starting lineup.

Buchholz will face young Rays right-hander Chris Archer, who had a terrific rookie season last year, going 9-7 with a 3.22 ERA.

Meanwhile, right-hander Phil Hughes will make his spring debut with the Twins after signing a three-year, $24 million deal this offseason. He'll face the Marlins and right-hander Tom Koehler in a game that can be heard live on Gameday Audio at 1:05 p.m.

The Yankees will play their first night game of the spring, hosting the Orioles in a 7:05 ET contest live on MLB.TV. Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran are scheduled to be in the lineup, while David Phelps makes his second start of the spring and Wei-Yin Chen gets the call for Baltimore.

Two former Cy Young Award winners will be matched up in a game between the Blue Jays and Phillies that can be seen live on MLB.TV at 6:35 p.m. It will pit knuckleballer R.A. Dickey against left-hander Cliff Lee in the first night game of the Grapefruit League season for both clubs.

Felix Hernandez will make his Cactus League debut as the Mariners travel to Glendale, Ariz., for a 3:05 p.m. game against the Dodgers that can be seen live on MLB.TV. It will be Hernandez's first of five spring games before he takes the hill in Anaheim on March 31 for his club-record seventh Opening Day start. Third baseman Kyle Seager is also expected to return to action after being sidelined with a sore right index finger the past few days.

Meanwhile, it will be a bullpen game for the Dodgers after right-hander Zack Greinke strained his right calf. The team will start former All-Star closer Brian Wilson. Outfielder Carl Crawford, who hasn't played since straining his right quad on Wednesday, may return to the lineup.

The Rangers will head to Tempe, Ariz., to face the Angels for a 3:05 p.m. game that can be seen live on MLB.TV. Yu Darvish gets the ball, while Rafael Perez is expected to pitch in his return from a right hamstring strain.

Tyler Skaggs, a favorite to win the fifth spot in the Angels' rotation, takes the hill for his first start of the spring. The 22-year-old left-hander became a Halo after an offseason trade with the D-backs and White Sox.
