The Great Clutch Debate

Being a clutch player is difficult to quantify with a stat in the box score or back of a baseball card. Being clutch is coming up big when the game is on the line and when your team needs you the most.

Every fan would describe being clutch in his/her own way, prompting us to ask our fans on Facebook yesterday to tell us who they immediately think of when hearing the word clutch.

Out of nearly 900 comments and over 20 players named, here are the top four answers.

Derek Jeter, New York Yankees – 167 comments

David Freese, St. Louis Cardinals – 98 comments

David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox – 81 comments

Albert Pujols, St. Louis Cardinals – 27 comments

Ricky lists David Freese’s postseason credentials as reasons he is clutch.

Nate is referring to David Ortiz’s MVP performance in the 2004 ALCS.

Nick references Jeter’s championship rings as evidence for his many clutch post-season performances.
