Shaw belts two HRs as Red Sox topple Rays
BOSTON -- Travis Shaw celebrated his fifth callup this season from Triple-A Pawtucket with a monster day, going 4-for-4 with two homers, a double and five runs scored to lead the Red Sox to an 11-7 victory over the Rays on Saturday at Fenway Park.
Xander Bogaerts notched four hits in a game for the fifth time this season and drove in three. Rusney Castillo added three hits and three RBIs on a day the Red Sox had 16 hits.
"The offense, just an outstanding day," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "Quality at-bats up and down the lineup. It starts off with Brock [Holt] leading off the game with a base hit. We were able to get on the board early, extend the lead and do enough to hold on."
Boston broke out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, but the Rays trimmed it to 7-6 by chasing Joe Kelly in the top of the sixth. Castillo came through with a two-out, two-run single to right in the bottom half of the inning to give the Red Sox some breathing room.
John Jaso led the Rays with three hits. Kevin Kiermaier, James Loney and Logan Forsythe each had two hits. One of Forsythe's hits was a solo shot in the ninth.
Matt Moore lasted just three innings for Tampa Bay, getting shelled for nine hits and six runs. Kelly had another inconsistent start for the Red Sox, giving up nine hits and five runs over five-plus innings.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Shaw hits upon arrival: For the second time this season, Shaw belted at least three hits on the same day he was called up. Shaw ripped a double in his first at-bat, followed by his first career homer and a single. The left-handed hitter capped his memorable day by hammering a two-run homer to center in the eighth. "He's a good player, really good," said Kelly. "He was probably pressing a little bit when he was first called up. He got his first Major League hit a couple times ago. He's seeing the ball really well and being confident at the plate and putting some good swings. He had a really good day."

Moore struggles: Moore made his sixth start since returning from Tommy John surgery, and again, the results were not good. The southpaw allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Though Moore worked just three innings, he threw 70 pitches (46 strikes). After the game, the Rays announced that Moore will be optioned to Triple-A. More >

Bogaerts a hit machine: With a .319 average, Bogaerts is now at his highest point since April 20. In the second, Bogaerts just missed his first home run since June 15, as his drive to right landed off the bullpen wall. More >
"No home run power this year," quipped Bogaerts. "I've hit three balls off the top of the wall that haven't gone out. That kind of summed it up that I'm not going to hit a lot of bombs this year."

SOUND SMART WITH YOUR FRIENDS
The Rays allowed three stolen bases, snapping a streak of 16 consecutive games without a steal by the opposition. Prior to Saturday, the Royals' Jarrod Dyson stole the last base against the Rays on July 9 at Kansas City.
Shaw became the first Red Sox player to score five runs in a game since Dustin Pedroia on Aug. 12, 2008, and the first Boston rookie to do so since Walt Dropo on June 8, 1950.
UNDER REVIEW
Kiermaier was called out while trying to steal third base with one out in the sixth. The Rays thought his hand dodged the tag by Red Sox third baseman Shaw, so they challenged. After review, it was ruled that the call would stand.

WHAT'S NEXT
Rays: Jake Odorizzi (6-6, 2.76 ERA) will make his 17th start of the season on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. ET after holding the Tigers to one run on six hits and a walk in six innings on Tuesday. He has finished at least six innings 12 times in 16 starts this season, compared to 14 times in 31 starts in 2014.
Red Sox: Left-hander Wade Miley (8-9, 4.65 ERA) draws the start in Sunday's finale of this 10-game homestand. Miley has pitched well against the Rays this season, going 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA in two starts.
