US captures second straight U-12 World Cup

The U.S. 12-under National Team beat Chinese Taipei, 7-2, to win gold in the 2015 World Baseball Softball Confederation U-12 Baseball World Cup at Tainan Stadium in Taiwan on Sunday.

It was the second consecutive year the U.S. won the event.

The U.S. avenged an earlier tournament loss to Chinese Taipei by climbing out of a 2-0 hole, opening the third inning with four straight hits, including a two-run go-ahead homer by Davis Diaz.

Nicholas Kurtz allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings, striking out five. Kurtz finished with a 2-0 record in three starts, striking out 15 and allowing on earned run in 14 2/3 innings.

Jack Ryan, Zach Torres and Kurtz were named to the tournament All-Star team following the game.
