Walters, Gibson make Minors rehab starts

MINNEAPOLIS -- Right-handers P.J. Walters and Kyle Gibson both fared well in rehab starts in the Minor Leagues on Tuesday.

Walters, on the disabled list since June 14 with right shoulder inflammation, tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings with Triple-A Rochester. He gave up two hits and a walk while striking out three. He threw 41 pitches, with 24 going for strikes.

Gibson, who is coming off Tommy John surgery in November, made his first rehab start with Class A Advanced Fort Myers. Ranked No. 6 on MLB.com's Top 20 Twins Prospects, Gibson gave up one run on three hits and a walk over three innings.

It came after he posted a 2.45 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings over nine appearances in the Gulf Coast League.

Right-hander Carl Pavano, meanwhile, had his start with the GCL Twins rained out on Monday, and will make a rehab start with Class A Fort Myers on Thursday. He's been on the disabled list since June 4 with right rotator cuff weakness.
