What to watch for in today's games

They're rounding the one-third pole of this Major League Baseball regular season and jockeying for position. The grandstands are shaking with energy. Some long shots look better than favorites. Before we get to American Pharoah, it's Friday night at the races and 30 broadcasters (plus Spanish) have the call. Here's what to watch for on your program: (all times ET)

Statcast™ Special: LAA@NYY, 7:05 p.m.

MLB Network is broadcasting this one, and it will be an opportunity to watch Statcast™ tracking at Yankee Stadium. With three of the American League's top four home run leaders available for analysis -- Mark Teixeira has 16 and Albert Pujols and Mike Trout 14 apiece -- that could get interesting. Andrew Miller is the first Yankee to convert his first 17 save opportunities with the club, so we'll see if he can extend that streak against the Angels after a day off.

Young stars on parade: CHC@WAS, 7:05 p.m.

Kris Bryant and Bryce Harper again? Sure, keep it going. The kids from Vegas were all right last week at Wrigley, each going 3-for-10 with two homers as the Nationals won two of three. Now they're at Nationals Park for the second game in a four-game series. Gotta like Harper's Triple Crown chances so far, too.

Trumbo Time: TB@SEA, 10:10 p.m.

The Mariners are about a third of the way through a season of great expectations, and this could be a chance to see how and if Mark Trumbo will give them a boost following his acquisition from Arizona in a six-player deal. His .506 slugging percentage at the time of the trade ranked sixth among National League outfielders. Jake Odorizzi (4-5), the Rays' scheduled starter, took the loss on May 25 at Tropicana Field when Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz drilled RBI singles off him in the first inning. On Thursday against Tampa Bay, Trumbo went 2-for-4 in his Seattle debut.

Tsunami Warning, Round 2: STL@LAD, 10:10 p.m.

Joc Pederson is reason enough to watch based on his five-game home run streak, which ended Thursday night, but this also is a chance to see if Carlos Martinez (5-2) can do it again for St. Louis in another big showdown of division leaders. It's a reprise of the Tsunami's outing last week opposite Brett Anderson, and Martinez gave up only a hit in seven innings that day at Busch Stadium while emotionally charged amid a tribute to his late friend, Oscar Taveras.
