2012

In his return season to the Padres, he hit .259 (37-for-143) over 82 games, his first campaign with San Diego since also playing for the Padres from 2001-03. Began the season on the 15-day DL with a strained right calf... appeared in one game on a rehab stint with Single-A Lake Elsinore before being reinstated from the 15-day DL on 4/16. Appeared in his first game of the season on 4/17 at COL with a start in LF, going 2-for-3 that day. Hit.294 (10-for-34)with six RBI over his first 18 games from 4/17- 5/12 before landing on the 15-day DL again on 5/19 with a lower back strain...reinstated from the DL on 6/3. Hit.344(11-for-32)from 6/3-28 after being reinstated from the DL. Stated 29 games total, with 19 in LF, seven in RF and three at 1B. u Hit .271 (13-for-48)with two home runs and nine RBI in the pinch. Had a two-run pinch-hit homer on 5/1 vs. MIL in the eighth inning to give the Padres a 2-0 victory...fourth PH homer of his career and first since 8/9/02 at CIN, also for SD. Hit his fifth career pinch-hit homer on 9/23 at SF, the only season of his career with multiple PH homers. With runners on base, he hit .297 (19-for-64) with six extra-base hits and 13 RBI. 2006

Kotsay batted .275 in 2006 and matched career-low marks in runs (57) and extra-base hits (39) since coming up with the Marlins in 1997. He started 96 of the A's first 111 games through Aug. 6, but back problems limited him to just 25 starts over the A's final 51 games. Kotsay hit .246 before the All-Star break, and hit .326 after it. He led the A's outfielders with six assists, and now has 105 assists dating back to 1998, which are the most among Major League outfielders over that span. His seven homers tied a career low since his first full season in 1998. He had just one homer in his final 75 games. Made his postseason debut in 2006 after playing in 1,284 regular-season games without a playoff appearance, which ranked seventh among active players.

2005

Batted .280 with 15 home runs and 82 RBIs in 139 games...the RBI total was a career high, topping his 68 with Florida in 1998...finished second on the A's in RBIs and had the most RBIs by an Oakland center fielder since Dave Henderson had 83 in 1991...ranked second among American League center fielders in RBIs (Vernon Wells, 95)...his 15 home runs ranked third among AL center fielders and matched his total from last year for the second best figure of his career...had just 40 walks for a .325 on-base percentage, both being his lowest figures since 1999, when he walked 29 times and had a .306 on-base percentage...had just five stolen bases, which were his fewest in a full season...led the A's with 49 multihit games...struck out just 51 times in 629 plate appearances for an average of 12.3 plate appearances per strikeout, which ranked third best in the AL...hit .346 (44-for-127) with runners in scoring position, which ranked sixth in the AL...batted .324 (58-for-179) against left-handed pitching and .261 (105-for-403) against right-handers...hit 12 of his 15 home runs against righties and 11 of his home runs came on the road...batted .260 (109-for-420) in innings one through six and .333 (54-for-162) with six of his 15 home runs in the seventh inning or later...tied for third in the AL in batting in the seventh inning or later...ranked fifth in the AL in fewest percent of swings-and-misses (10.0%)...got off to a fast start as he hit .323 (32-for-99) in April...hit .255 in both May and June and .231 in July...hit .251 (74-for-295) over a 70-game stretch from May 1 to July 24, which dropped his average to .269...had appeared in 94 of the A's 98 games through July 24 before back problems caused him to miss five games from July 25-30...appeared in just 45 of the A's final 64 games, primarily because of back problems, but hit .303 (57-for-188) over that span...hit .314 in August and .312 in September...now has a .314 (198-for-630) career average in September, his best mark for any month of the season...made a team-leading 137 starts in center field and committed four errors in 310 total chances for a .987 fielding percentage...all four errors came in two streak with 10 runs scored, 10 RBIs and seven multihit games...was ejected from the game on Sept. 28 against Los Angeles by second base umpire Mike Everitt...it was his second ejection as an Athletic 2004

Was acquired by the A's during the off season for Ramon Hernandez and Terrence Long and batted a career high .314 which ranked eighth in the American League...it was also the eighth best single season batting average in Oakland history...also had career highs in at bats (606), hits (190), doubles (37), total bases (278), on-base percentage (.370) and slugging (.459)...the 190 hits were the second best single season total in Oakland history to the record of 204 set by Miguel Tejada in 2002...they were the most hits by an Athletics left-handed hitter since Jerry Lumpe had 193 for the Kansas City A's in 1962...led the A's in at bats, hits, total bases and multiple hit games (57)...the multiple hit games tied the Oakland record set by Miguel Tejada in 2002 and tied for seventh best in the AL in 2004...had 19 games of three or more hits which tied for second best in the AL and equaled the most by an Athletic since 1972 (Jason Giambi, 1999 and Carney Lansford, 1989)...hit .346 (94 for 272) in
