Makes his offseason home in Pittsburgh, Pa....named a two-time all-Big Ten Conference selection at Indiana University, where he majored in public and environmental affairs management...graduated from Upper St. Clair High School in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1990, and was an all-conference player in baseball, football and basketball.
2005
Split the season between Triple A Nashville and Triple A New Orleans...signed by the Milwaukee Brewers as a minor league free agent on Dec. 17, 2004...released on June 16...signed by the Washington Nationals to a minor league contract on June 22...tied his career high with 20 home runs - 12 with Nashville and eight in New Orleans...also recorded a career-high combined 35 doubles...batted .344 (62x180) in 61 games with Nashville and .361 (61x169) in 52 games at New Orleans...finished fifth in the Pacific Coast League in batting (.352), fourth in onbase percentage (.446) and third in slugging percentage (.630).
2004
Split the season between the Cleveland and Houston organizations...started the season in extended Spring Training with Cleveland after undergoing a second surgery on his right shoulder during the offseason...signed by Cleveland as a free agent on April 5...appeared in one game at Double A Akron before being released on July 8...signed a minor league contract with the Astros on Aug. 2 and batted .329 with four homers and 20 RBI at Double A Round Rock.
2003
Did not play after undergoing surgery in March to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
2002
Appeared in 12 games at third base for the Chicago Cubs, including nine starts...played in 13 late-season games after his contract was purchased from Triple A Iowa on Sept. 4, 2002...went 9x30 with three doubles and five RBI...when he saw defensive action at third base on Sept. 4 vs. Milwaukee, it was his first Major League appearance since Oct. 3, 1999 (for FLA at ATL)...played in 86 games for Iowa and hit .299 with 20 homers and 63 RBI...posted a .954 fielding percentage...on Disabled List from April 23-June 2 with a strained right knee.

Played for Philadelphia's Triple A affiliate - Scranton/Wilkes Barre...earned International League midseason and postseason All-Star honors after batting .293 with 34 doubles, 13 home runs and 45 RBI...ranked second in the league in on-base percentage (.394) and walks (77).
2000
Split the season between Triple A Omaha (KC) and Triple A Columbus (NYY)...went to Spring Training with the Los Angeles Dodgers after being acquired in an offseason trade...released by the Dodgers late in training camp and signed with the Royals organization...batted .280 in 54 games for Omaha, but was released June 15...signed with Columbus on June 17 and batted .289 in 41 games...injured his right foot on July 31 (torn plantar fascia) and missed the remainder of the season.

Played in 77 games for the Florida Marlins and hit .254 with 16 doubles, six homers and 29 RBI...posted a 10-game hitting streak from April 20-May 1...placed on the Disabled List May 23-June 8 with a strained left groin...returned to the DL July 1-Sept. 6 with a strained left quadriceps muscle.

Appeared in a career-high 136 games between the Chicago Cubs, Triple A Iowa, and the Florida Marlins...started at third base on Opening Day for the Cubs...optioned to Iowa on May 27 and rejoined the Cubs on June 26...traded to the Marlins on July 31 where he batted .263 in 48 games with six home runs and 17 RBI.
1997
One of the National League's top rookies during his first big league season, batting .275 in 114 games for the Cubs with eight homers and 44 RBI...ranked among the NL rookie leaders in homers, doubles (23), RBI, triples (5), hits (100), total bases (157), extra-base hits (36) and multi-hit games (25)...made his big league debut Opening Day at Florida (April 1), starting at third base and going 1x3...his first Major League hit was a single off the Marlins' Kevin Brown...hit his first home run on June 11 at Wrigley Field off New York's Armando Reynoso...ranked second among NL third basemen with a .971 fielding percentage (9E/312TC)...placed on DL from April 30-May 30 with right shoulder inflammation.

Started the season at Double-A Orlando and promoted to Triple A Iowa on July 12...named a Southern League mid-season All-Star...went 1x2 with a home run in the Double A All-Star Game...season was short on his left wrist.
