Began the season with Class A Tampa, as he returned from Tommy John elbow surgery. Was 0-2 with a 4.58 ERA in four starts before being transferred to Columbus on 5/12.
2004
Earned a spot on his first Major-League Opening-Day Roster, beginning the season as the Yankees fifth starter and long reliever...appeared in three games (one start) for the Yankees, posting an 0-1 record with a 5.00 ERA (9.0IP, 9H, 5ER, 4BB, 2K)...suffered the loss in his only start of the season on 4/10 vs. Chicago, allowing 8H and 5ER in 6.1IP (1BB, 1K, 2HR)...was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 4/18 (retroactive to 4/17) with a torn right ulnar collateral ligament...had "Tommy John" surgery on 4/22, performed by Dr. James Andrews...was transferred to the 60-day D.L. on 5/1.

Began the season with Colorado's Class-A affiliate Asheville, going 1-1 with a 3.78 ERA in three starts before being traded to the Yankees as the player to be named later for RHP Craig Dingman on 4/20...made his debut with the Yankees at Class-A Greensboro, going 6-1 with a 2.75 ERA in 8GS (55.2IP, 35H, 17ER, 21BB, 67K) before being promoted to Class-A Tampa...finished the season with Tampa, winning four of his last five decisions and seven of his last nine...combined to go 16-7 with a 3.30ERA in 27 games/24 GS (155.1IP, 119H, 57ER, 170K).
