Full name MICHAEL FREDER ICK GOSL ING...Resides in Encinitas, California...In 1998 graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City...In the winter of 2002 graduated from Stanford with a degree in human biology.
2009
Split the season between the Triple A level and the big leagues...Started the year at AAA Rochester in the Twins organization, going 7-1 w/a save & a 4.37 ERA (35.0IP, 33H, 17R/ER, 17BB, 34K) in 21 app. before asking for his release on June 2...Signed by Indians on June 5 to a minor league contract...Appeared in 3 games at AAA Columbus (1.13ERA, 8.0IP, 6H, 1ER) before his contract was purchased by Cleveland on June 19... Was 0-0 w/a 6.75 ERA (12.0IP, 17H, 9ER, 5BB, 7K) in 7 games out of the 'pen w/ Cleveland before designated for assignment on August 1...Outrighted to Columbus August 6 and went 0-3 w/a 6.66 ERA (24.1IP, 39H, 18ER, 6BB, 22K) in 5G/4GS...Contract purchased for a second time on Sept. 4 and spent the remainder of the season with the Indians...Was 0-0 w/a 3.46 ERA in 8 relief appearances in Sept/Oct. (13.0IP, 13H, 5ER) ...Tossed 4.0 scoreless IP (2H) on Sept. 9 vs. Texas...Longest relief app. of career & longest outing since 7/30/05 vCHI (GS, 5.1P)...Also tossed 4.0IP in final outing of the season on Oct. 3 at Boston...
2008
Spent the entire season with Triple-A Syracuse (Toronto)...won in three straight outings, April 15-21 including a season-high of 3.1 innings pitched April 15 at Buffalo, posting an ERA of 1.04 (8.2 ip, 1 er)...consecutive saves April 24 and 27, combining to toss 4.1 scoreless innings...finished April with a record of 3-1, 2.25 (20.0 ip, 5 er) with two saves and a batting-average-against of .214 in 10 games...consecutive saves May 11 and 13...did not walk a batter in nine games (9.1 ip) from May 6-25...did not allow an earned run in eight straight appearances (6.2 ip) from June 4-21...season-high of four strikeouts done four times in the season...led the club in saves and games.
2006
Spent most of the season at Class AAA Louisville, where he went 6-8, 4.58 in 22 starts and 1 relief appearance...made 1 appearance during 2 stints with the Reds...from 6/5-6/23 was on Louisville's disabled list with tendinitis in his left shoulder...from 8/14-8/20 was International Pitcher of the Week (2gs, 2-0, 0.69, 13ip, 9h, 1er, 1bb, 13k)...was the only Bats player to win the weekly award...began the season at Louisville and made 2 starts there before he was recalled on 4/19...made his Reds debut in that afternoon's 9-8 win vs Fla (1.1ip, 1h, 2er, 1bb, 1k, 1hbp, 1hr)...was optioned back to Louisville immediately following that game, when LHP Brian Shackelford was recalled...took Shackelford's spot on the roster on 7/6 and without pitching was returned to Louisville the next day, when newly-acquired LHP Eddie Guardado reported to the club...spent the rest of the season with the Bats...was designated for assignment on 9/5, when the Reds acquired RHP Sun-Woo Kim...on 9/7 cleared waivers and was outrighted to Louisville.
2005
Made the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster after allowing just 2 earned runs in his last 18.0 innings of spring training...was edged out of the starting rotation by Brad Halsey but began the season in Ari's bullpen... went 0-2, 9.00 in 7 apps, all in relief, before he was optioned to Class AAA Tucson on 4/24...returned to the majors on 7/2...joined the rotation on 7/7, when Shawn Estes was injured...from 7/10-8/6 made all 5 of his starts for the D'Backs and went 0-1, 3.33...on 7/25 at Mil made his start 1 day early after Brandon Webb was scratched with a virus...in that 4-2 loss posted his only quality start of the season (6ip, 6h, 2er, 2bb, 4k)... returned to Tucson on 8/9 and spent the rest of the season there.
2004
Didn't pitch until 5/4 while recovering from September 2003 arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder to repair the torn labrum and torn rotator cuff...began the season at Class AAA Tucson and went 9-5 in 21 starts and 3 relief apps before he was promoted to the D'Backs when rosters expanded in September...made his Major League debut on 9/9 at LA, pitched in relief and received no decision in the 5-3 loss (2ip, 3h, 2er, 0bb, 1k)...made his first Major League start on 9/14 vs Col and received no decision in the 13-inning, 4-3 victory (5.2ip, 3h, 2er, 3bb, 6k)...earned his first career victory in his second start, a 3-2 win at StL on 9/19.
2003
Pitched at Class AAA in just his second professional season...on 9/23 had arthroscopic surgery to repair the torn labrum and torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder (Dr. Lewis Yocum).
