Pitched the entire season at Triple-A Portland, going 3-7 with nine saves and a 5.24 ERA (54 ER/92.2 IP) in 47 games (10 starts)...struck out 87 compared to 48 walks...started 10 of his first 12 appearances before moving to the bullpen for the remainder of the season on 6/8...went 2-1 with nine saves and a 2.93 ERA (14 ER/43.0 IP) in 37 relief appearances...did not allow a home run in 43.0 relief innings...held left-handed hitters to a .269 batting average (42-for-156)...did not yield a run in his final 15 outings of the season (13.2 IP) from 8/6-9/3, converting seven consecutive save opportunities over that span.

2006

He went 4-3 with a 2.64 ERA in 12 starts with Double-A Mobile before getting promoted to Triple-A Portland. He made 15 starts for the Beavers, posting a 2-9 record with a 7.27 ERA.

2005

Split time between Single-A Lake Elsinore and Double-A Mobile...went 13-8 with a 3.68 ERA in a combined 163.1 innings between the two clubs...tied for the lead among all Padres' farmhands in wins, while his 3.89 ERA ranked fourth...captured the California League ERA title (3.44) and was named the league's Pitcher of the Year...posted a perfect 4-0 record with a 1.89 ERA (7 ER/33.1 IP) in five starts in June... had a string of 27.0 consecutive scoreless innings at Lake Elsinore, June 13-July 8...in his 19 starts with Lake Elsinore, went 11-3 with a 3.44 ERA and 80 strikeouts...went 9-1 in his last 10 decisions, before earning a promotion to Mobile in late July...made his fi rst start with Mobile on July 27 and earned the win by tossing 7.0 innings, allowing just two earned runs vs. Mississippi...was also selected to represent the United States at the 2005 World Cup played in the Netherlands...helped defeat Spain 11-1 with nine strikeouts over 6.0 innings on September 6...Was named the Padres Minor League Pitcher of the Year at the club's annual organization postseason Awards Dinner on November 3...is one of three current Padres' pitchers joining Jake Peavy and Tim Stauffer, to earn this honor.

Split his second professional season between Single-A Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore, compiling an 8-12 record with one complete game and a 4.29 ERA (73 ER/153.0 IP)...was a member of the Midwest League's mid-season All-Star team...earned his first career complete game in the first of May 2 doubleheader vs. Wisconsin, a 7.0-inning, 7-1 victory...that complete game effort capped a three-game stretch that saw him go 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA (2 ER/16.0 IP), April 20-May 2...advanced to Lake Elsinore June 23...posted a 1.08 ERA (3 ER/25.0 IP) in his four victories with the Storm. 2003: Went 4-6 with a 2.75 ERA (24 ER/78.2 IP) in 14 starts at Short-A Eugene...ranked seventh among Northwest League starters in ERA...was second on the club in innings pitched and third in starts...allowed two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts, July 18-August 16...went 3-2 during the six-game stretch.
