Born in Mission Viejo, CA, which is located in Orange County...Starred at Tesoro High in nearby Las Flores, Calif. Named a first-team All-South Coast League during senior season...Stayed near home his first two years of college, attending and playing baseball at nearby Saddleback College. He was named first-team Orange Empire in each of his seasons there. As a sophomore he led the Gauchos in hits, doubles, runs and stolen bases while hitting .362...After two years at Saddleback, Auerbach was drafted by Colorado in the 40th round of the 2018 draft. He didn't sign and attended the University of Alabama...As a junior with Alabama in 2019, Auerbach split time between catcher and third base. In 55 games (54 starts) he hit .270 was was tied for the team lead in doubles (12) and stolen bases (nine). He ranked third on the team in hits and runs while he was fourth in RBI and total bases. He started all 17 games in the abbreviated 2020 season and hit .388 (26-for67) as a senior. Led the team in hits (26), doubles (eight), runs (22) and stolen bases (12) while reaching base safely in 16 of the 17 games. He was named to Collegiate Baseball News' All-America Second Team.

Appeared at two levels during his first full professional season after being signed as a non-drafted free agent following the shortened 2020 draft...Raked to open the year at Low-A San Jose, hitting .342 in 34 games while stealing 12 bases...Promoted to High-A Eugene on July 1 and spent the rest of the year there...Slugged 15 homers in 53 games with Eugene...also posted an .866 OPS...Went 2-for-16 during Eugene's playoff series with Spokane...Between his time in San Jose and Eugene he saw action defensively at catcher, second base, third base as well as all three outfield positions.
