Chris begins his second year as the Cubs major league pitching coach after serving in a variety of coaching positions with the Seattle, Tampa Bay, Cincinnati and Milwaukee organizations ... this is his third stint as a big league pitching coach -- he filled the role with Tampa Bay in 2003 and in an interim basis with Milwaukee late in the 2009 season...Pitched in all or part of 11 big league seasons with Milwaukee (1986- 92) and Seattle (1993-96)...Tossed the second no-hitter in Mariners history, blanking visiting Boston 7-0, April 22, 1993...Attended Sacramento City (CA) College ... graduated from Cordova (CA) High School in 1981, where he played football, basketball and baseball...Participated in the 2012 Cubs Caravan. **Coaching Career** Since throwing his last major league pitch in 1996, Chris has assisted in a variety of coaching and scouting roles in the professional ranks and on the collegiate level...Previously worked as an advance scout for Milwaukee in 2010-11 before taking over as pitching coach at Triple-A Nashville in June 2011 after incumbent Rich Gale resigned for personal reasons...In 2009, served as Nashville's pitching coach and directed the Sounds staff to the lowest ERA in the Pacific Coast League ... late in the 2009 season, replaced Bill Castro as pitching coach for the Milwaukee Brewers...Joined the Cincinnati Reds organization in 2008, serving as pitching coach for Double-A Chattanooga...Prior to joining the Reds, coached two seasons for Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, first as the school's pitching coach and then as interim manager in 2006-07...From 2004-05, was the assistant pitching coach at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh...Became a coach at the major league level in 2003, serving as Lou Piniella's pitching coach in Tampa Bay...For three seasons prior to his stint with the Devil Rays, worked as a special assignment pitching coach in Seattle's organization ... duties included time as Triple-A Tacoma's pitching coach in 2001, relieving Jim Slaton who was away on personal business. **Playing Career** Chris played 11 big league seasons with Milwaukee (1986-92) and Seattle (1993-96) ... all told, tallied a 94-93 career record with a 3.96 ERA (753 ER/1,710.0 IP) in 309 games (246 starts)...Tossed the second no-hitter in Mariners history, blanking visiting Boston 7-0, April 22, 1993...Won 14 or more games three times, including a career-high 16 victories in 1992 for Milwaukee...Was named Milwaukee's Most Valuable Pitcher in 1989 after finishing fourth in the American League with 173 strikeouts and tied for fourth with eight complete games...Selected by Milwaukee in the second round of the 1982 draft (January Secondary phase).
