Last name is pronounced as "vee-YAR."...A product of the Astros Dominican Academy, was originally signed by Houston as a non-drafted free agent on July 19, 2005...signed by Astros scouts Julio Linares and Rick Aponte...Contract was purchased from Lexington on Nov. 20, 2009, adding him to the Astros 40-man roster for the first time in his career...signed to a one-year contract that runs through the 2012 season.

2011

Started the season with Triple A Oklahoma City, going 2-1 with a 6.81 ERA (29ER/38.1IP)...made 10 total appearances, including seven starts, for the RedHawks...placed on the Disabled List with right shoulder soreness from May 22-June 13...reinstated from the DL and sent to Double A Corpus Christi on June 13...went 2-4 with two saves in 32 relief appearances for the Hooks...recorded 33 strikeouts in 37.2 innings pitched.

2010

Made eight appearances for Houston as a September call-up, posting a 4.50 ERA (3ER/6IP)... allowed a .227 (5x22) opponent batting average... called up from Double A Corpus Christi on Sept. 1, having never made an appearance at the Triple A level... made 36 appearances for Corpus Christi, including 11 starts, going 4-7 with five saves and a 4.15 ERA (47ER/102IP)... made his first 25 appearances out of the bullpen, posting a 3.14 ERA (15ER/43IP) with a .199 opponents batting average... converted to the starter's role on July 5 and made 11 starts (3-3, 4.88) before his September call-up...made his longest MLB appearance on Oct. 2 vs. CHC with 2.0 scoreless innings...six of his eight appearances were shorter than 1.0 full inning...Major League debut came on Sept. 10 vs. LAD with 0.1 of a scoreless inning...committed an error on the first hitter he faced (Furcal) before fanning the second (Carroll) to escape the inning...earned Corpus Christi's Pitcher of the Month for April after posting an 0.71 ERA (1ER/12.2IP) with one save in seven relief appearances in the month.
