Began the season with the Phillies, going 1-0 with a 8.31 ERA (17.1IP, 24H, 17R/16ER, 9BB, 22K, 2HR) in 20 relief appearances…posted career highs in game played, innings pitched and strikeouts…was acquired by the Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations on 6/18…was assigned to Triple-A Worcester, going 0-1 with a 4.87 ERA (20.1IP, 19H, 13R/11ER, 11BB, 24K, 0HR) in 15 appearances.

2021

Over five stints with the Padres (6/16-20, 6/27, 7/8-17, 7/18, 10/2), tossed 5.0 scoreless innings (6H, 3BB, 3K, 0HR) in five relief outings…was acquired by San Diego in exchange for RHP Dauris Valdez on 4/5…spent the majority of the season with Triple-A El Paso, going 3-4 with four saves and a 4.43 ERA (44.2IP, 40H, 22ER, 21BB, 71K, 3HR) in 43 relief appearances…ranked fifth among Padres farmhands in appearances.

2020

Made the Cubs’ Opening Day roster, posting a 16.20 ERA (1.2IP, 4H, 3ER, 1BB, 0HR) in three relief appearances with the Cubs…was placed on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation on 8/2 (retroactive to 7/30) and transferred to the 60-day injured list on 8/23, missing the remainder of the season.

2019

James had four stints with the Cubs, going 0-1 with a 2.89 ERA (3 ER/9.1 IP) in nine relief outings...Held the opponent scoreless in six of his nine outings with Chicago...struck out 11 batters in 9.1 innings...Went 3-2 with six saves and a 4.21 ERA (27 ER/57.2 IP) in 45 relief outings with Triple-A Iowa...struck out 81 batters and walked 31 in 57.2 innings while limiting foes to a .195 batting average...Appeared in a team-high 45 games with Iowa and finished 28 of those games, by far the most on the team...posted a 0.60 ERA (1 ER/15.0 IP) in his final 11 outings, covering 15.0 innings, with 20 strikeouts and six walks in this span.

James began the season with Double-A Tennessee, was promoted to Triple-A Iowa in late June and made his major league debut, July 11 at San Francisco ... Went 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA (5 ER/11.0 IP) in 11 major league contests ... did not allow a run in his final four outings (3.1 IP) ... struck out 10 batters in 11.0 innings of work ... picked up a hold in two of his first three major league appearances ... Went a combined 4-3 with a 3.28 ERA (21 ER/57.2 IP) in 41 relief outings between Single-A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Tennessee ... Was 3-0 with a 2.31 ERA (10 ER/39.0 IP) in 27 games with Myrtle Beach, earning his first promotion to the Double-A level ... went 1-3 with a 5.30 ERA (11 ER/18.2 IP) in 14 relief outings with the Smokies.

2016

Went 4-1 with a 3.25 ERA (13 ER/36.0 IP) in 30 relief outings between Single-A South Bend and Myrtle Beach ... had a 1.93 ERA (2 ER/9.1 IP) in eight games with the Pelicans ... between the two clubs, he struck out 43 batters while walking just 10.

2015

Went 2-6 with a 4.68 ERA (26 ER/50.0 IP) in 17 games, including 11 starts, between rookie league Mesa and South Bend.
