John, acquired from Cleveland in December of 2008, made his major league debut with the Cubs in 2011...he recorded a 6.75 ERA (2 ER/2.2 IP) with no record in four big league relief appearances...The southpaw is 12-12 with a 3.60 ERA (85 ER/212.2 IP) and 17 saves in 171 career minor league games, all but one as a reliever...Has struck out 298 batters compared to just 136 walks in 212.2 career minor league innings, good for an average of 12.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched...Selected to the Pacific Coast League mid-season All-Star team in 2011, his first professional All-Star selection...Named 2011 Iowa Cubs Pitcher of the Year after going 4-4 with a career- high seven saves, 11 holds and a 3.42 ERA (21 ER/55.1 IP) in 50 relief appearances with the club...Attended the University of Minnesota...selected by Cleveland in the 21st round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

John was 3-4 with a three saves and a 6.52 ERA (21 ER/29.0 IP) in 30 relief appearances for Triple-A Iowa before missing the second half of the season with left shoulder inflammation. ... Held right-handed hitters to a .188 batting average (13-for-69). ... Recorded a 1.59 ERA (2 ER/11.1 IP) in 11 May relief appearances after starting the year with a 6.35 ERA (4 ER/5.2 IP) in seven April outings. ... Held the opponent scoreless in eight-straight outings, May 1-25, spanning 7.1 innings of work. ... Had a 4.33 ERA at the end of June, but allowed eight earned runs in his final three outings (2.0 IP), July 1-6, to raise his ERA over two runs to his season-ending 6.52 mark. ... Spent time on the disabled list with left shoulder inflammation ... made one rehab appearance with Single-A Mesa, August 1, before he was shut down for the remainder of the year.

Fanned 80 in 60.0 innings of work, an average of 12.0 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched... Handcuffed the opponent to a .172 batting average (36-for-209)...right-handed batters hit .156 (22-for-141) off the lefty... Tossed 2.0 or more innings eight times, including a season-high 2.2 August 11 with the I-Cubs... Struck out 100 batters in 64.0 innings, an average of 14.1 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched...surrendered only three home runs, 0.4 home runs allowed per 9.0 innings... Walked just 32 batters compared to those 100 punchouts, good for a 3.1-to-one strikeout-to-walk ratio...
