Graduated from Pensacola (Fla.) High School in 1997, where he lettered in both baseball and basketball...attended both the University of West Florida and Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Fla...earned all-conference recognition in 1999...wife's name is Megan and the couple have two children: Alexander and Jaxon...the family makes their home in Phoenix, Ariz.
2005
Pitched the majority of the season at Triple-A Durham where he started all but one game (27 starts).
Was purchased from Durham on 4/20 and made his lone Major League start that night vs. TEX and allowed eight runs in 4.0 innings for the loss. Was sent back to Durham the following day.
Upon his return to Triple-A pitched the final 2.0 innings of relief on 4/24 and allowed no runs. Started the year allowing no runs in his first three appearances,11.0 IP.
Pitched a complete game victory in his final game on 9/5, throwing 9.0 innings allowing four runs (three earned) with five strikeouts. Struck out a season high nine batters on 6/27 at Buffalo (7.0 IP).
Was first in the International League in runs (103) and home runs allowed (23), third in earned runs (88) and fourth in walks (61) and hits (175).
2004
Webb was claimed off waivers from the Cubs in Spring Training and spent the early part of the year recovering from a broken leg suffered during the winter. He pitched for Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. In four relief appearances with the Rays, he allowed 12 hits and seven walks in nine innings.
2002
John rebounded strongly from his 2001 right elbow surgery ... after returning to the active list in May, he combined to make 21 starts for Daytona (A) and West Tenn (AA) -- going 9-8 with a 4.00 ERA.
struck out 110 batters in 119.1 innings while allowing 95 hits ... opponents hit just .219 against him (95-433).
at Daytona, he went 5-3 with a 3.43 ERA in 10 starts ... gave up just 43 hits in 57.2 innings of work.
after being activated off the disabled list May 12, he started that day vs. Brevard County and went the distance in a 2-0 victory ... allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk en route to earning Florida State League Pitcher of the Week honors.
struck out a season-high 10 batters in a 6.0-inning stint June 12 vs. Charlotte.
saw his first Double-A action after being promoted to West Tenn July 7, going 4-5 in 11 starts.
2001
Missed most of the year after injuring his right elbow ... went 1-1 in 5 games (4 starts) for Daytona (A).
opened the season on the disabled list with a strained right elbow ... was on the active roster May 5-May 29.
returned to the injured list May 30 ... underwent ulnar collateral ligament reconstructive surgery in June (Dr. Michael Schafer).
2000
Was a Midwest League midseason all-star at Lansing (A), going 7-6 with a 2.47 ERA in 21 starts ... his ERA ranked 3rd in the league.
received a late-season promotion to Daytona (A), where he was 1-1 in 4 games (2 starts).
his combined 2.73 ERA for the season ranked 3rd among all Cubs minor league pitchers.
