PHILIP MATTHEW (PHIL) SEIBEL...pitched 3 seasons at the University of Texas (1998-2000), going 5-2 with a 2.42 ERA as a junior to help the Longhorns reach the 2000 College World Series...pitched for Team USA in the summer of 999...graduated with honors from Cypress (CA) High School in 1997.
2005
Missed the entire season after undergoing "Tommy John" reconstructive surgery on his left elbow at the conclusion of the 2004 campaign.
2004
Made his major league debut with 3.2 scoreless innings in 2 relief appearances for Boston, but was limited to only 14 additional minor league appearances due to left elbow soreness...went 1-2 with a 3.02 ERA (15 ER/44.2 IP) in 8 games (all but one as a starter) for Triple-A Pawtucket, 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA (5 ER/6.0 IP) in 3 games (one start) for Double-A Portland and posted no record and a 2.25 ERA (1 ER/4.0 IP) in 3 rehab starts for the Gulf Coast League Red Sox...was sidelined from June 5-July 23 before returning to make a start for the GCL Sox July 24...then did not pitch again until August 25, when he made the first of 2 more starts for the GCL Sox before closing the season with 2 relief outings for the Sea Dogs...was released by the club September 23 and cleared waivers and became a free agent September 28...made his major league debut April 15 vs. Baltimore, but walked the only batter he faced...walked 4 batters, but did not allow a hit over 3.2 shutout innings April 18 vs. New York...worked at least 5.0 innings in all 8 of his Triple-A contests, including a season-high 6.2 innings in 2 of his final 3 starts.

Reached Triple-A in just his 3rd season after only 67 pro outings...split the season between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Norfolk in the Mets chain, going 7-8 with a 4.31 ERA in 28 games (22 starts)...began the year at Binghamton and posted a 1.56 ERA in 6 May starts to earn a promotion...debuted for the Tides June 4 at Buffalo and went 2-3 with a 6.03 ERA in 11 games (5 starts)...was 1-3 with a 6.65 ERA in his first 5 Norfolk outings, all starts...made his final 6 Triple-A appearances in relief, going 1-0 with a 4.76 ERA...returned to Binghamton in mid-July and went 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in 7 starts to finish 5-5 with a 3.59 ERA in 17 Eastern League starts...fanned 96 and walked 49 in 117.0 innings, an average of 7.4 K's per 9 innings...opponents hit .262...lefties hit .221 (19-for-86) and righties batted .271 (98-for-361)...allowed just one extra-base hit to a lefty, a double, in 86 at-bats...held opponents to a .208 (11-for-53) average with runners in scoring position and 2 outs...pitched at least 5.0 innings in 14 of 22 starts, at least 6.0 innings in 6...did not allow an earned run in 3 straight starts (20.0 IP) May 18-28...allowed just one hit in 8.0 shutout innings in a win May 23 at Altoona...won his next start by limiting New Haven to 5 hits in 6.0 scoreless frames May 28, striking out a season-high 8...fanned at least one in 10 of 11 Triple-A outings, including 6 punchouts in 3.0 scoreless innings July 18 at Charlotte in his final outing with the Tides.

Went 10-8 with a 3.97 ERA in 28 games (25 starts) for Double-A Binghamton...pitched at least 5.0 innings in 23 of his 25 starts, including his first 15 in a row, and at least 6.0 in 12...pitched a season-high 8.0 innings in a 9-2 win May 21 vs. Reading and again in a 10-3 win June 17 at Norwich...allowed 3 earned runs or less in 18 starts...struck out a season-high 12 in 7.0 innings in a 5-1 win August 3 vs. Trenton.
2001
Made his pro debut with Montreal's Single-A Jupiter affiliate, going 10-7 with a 3.95 ERA in 29 games (21 starts)...struck out 88 and walked just 28 in 134.1 innings, an average of just 1.85 walks per 9.0 innings, 2nd-best in the Florida State League.
