Acquired from the San Diego Padres on July 16, with OF Franchy Cordero, for LHP Tim Hill...Made a pair of starts, July 26 at Cleveland and Aug. 1 vs. the White Sox...Took the loss in his first start, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and a walk over 2.0 innings…became one of seven pitchers to lose a game in which they did not allow an earned run in 2020, and first Royal since Bruce Chen (6.0 IP, 4 R, 0 ER) at San Diego on June 29, 2011... Became the third Cuban-born pitcher to start a game for the Royals, joining Onelki García (2017) and Zip Sánchez (1988). 

2019

Split the majority of the season between Lake Elsinore (A) and Amarillo (AA) before receiving his 1st taste of the majors, making 5 appearances (3 starts) for SD in September...Tossed 6.0 innings of 2-run ball on 5 hits in his ML debut on September 3 at ARI in SD's 2-1 defeat…allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and 1 walk in the first frame, but settled into 5.0 scoreless innings thereafter, allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk...Went on to go 0-1 with a 8.49 ERA with 11 SO against 10 BB across his next 3 appearances (2 starts) from September 10-24 before 2.0 scoreless relief innings in the Padres final game of the season on September 29 at Chase Field...Opened the season with LE and posted a 2.85 ERA (17 ER, 53.2 IP) through 10 starts...allowed 2 earned runs-or-fewer in 9 of his 10 starts and lasted 5.0+ innings in 8 of 10 while limiting the opposition to a .192 AVG...Promoted to AMA on June 4, where he posted a 4.23 ERA (36 ER, 76.2 IP) across 15 appearances (13 starts)... his SO/9.0 IP rate improved from 9.1 while with LE to 10.3 with AMA, including his 1st double digit SO performance, punching out 10 vs. Frisco on July 6.

Made 25 appearances (23 starts) for Lake Elsinore (A), going 6-9 with a 5.11 ERA (71 ER, 125.0 IP)...Led the club and ranked T-9th in the California League in starts (23)...His 118 strikeouts ranked 2nd on the club, behind only Pedro Avila's 142, and ranked 10th in the Cal League...Was scoreless in 2 of his 3 postseason appearances, posting a 2.70 ERA (1 ER, 3.1 IP) with 6 SO and 3 BB.

2017

Made his professional debut for Fort Wayne (A), going 5-2 with a 4.41 ERA (34 ER, 69.1 IP) across 16 appearances (11 starts)...Tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in a pivotal Game 3 semifinal matchup at Dayton to advance to the Midwest League championship series…followed Michel Baez's 5.0 scoreless innings in FW's 3-0 victory.
