Yonny Jose Hernandez…wife’s name is Massiel… nickname is “Mosquito” due to his pest-like playing style… starred for Team Venezuela in the 2011 Little League World Series as both a hitter and pitcher, reaching the semi-finals of the international bracket…hit two home runs in Venezuela’s 8-0 victory over British Columbia in Williamsport, Penn. on 8/16/11…Signed by the Texas Rangers on July 2, 2012 to a Minor League contract.

2022

Began the year with Triple-A Round Rock for one game before getting traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 7…was immediately assigned to Triple-A Reno where he played three games before getting called up to the big leagues…played 12 total games with Arizona and spent the rest of the season with Triple-A Reno...With Triple-A Reno, the righty posted a .244/.353/.328/.681 slashline with six doubles, six triples, one home run and 31 RBI...Stole 30 bases with Triple-A Reno, the most swipes since 2019…was caught five times...Started 44 games at second base in Triple-A, logging 375.2 innings and committing just two errors…also spent time at third base (11 GS) and shortstop (12 G, 11 GS)...With Arizona, appeared in 12 games for a.083 average (2-for-24) with two walks and two stolen bases… defensively appeared at third base (10 G, 6 GS) and second base (2 G, 1 GS), logging 68.0 innings without an error...Stole two bases at the Major League level: April 16 at NYM and April 20 at WSH.

2021

Appeared in 44 games (40 starts) in his debut season, seeing action defensively across the infield: 3B (28 GS), 2B (8 GS), SS (4 GS)…batted .217/.315/.252/.567 (31-143) with no home runs and six RBI while going 11-for-13 in stolen base attempts…opened the campaign with Round Rock (AAA) and had his contract selected by Texas on 8/5, starting 40 of the Rangers’ final 54 G down the stretch…switch-hitter posted a .232 BA (23-99) vs. RHP and .182 BA (8-44) vs. LHP…26 of his 31 hits (83.9%) went for singles, though two of his last three hits to end the season were doubles…from the time of his promotion (8/5) to the end of the regular season, ranked among TEX batters in stolen bases (1st), walks (2nd, 17) and times on base (4th, 52)…his 11 steals from 8/10-end of season led all Rangers and ranked T5th-most in the Majors over that span…worked career-high three walks on 9/25 at BAL, matching single-game record for a Texas rookie (20x)…had no strikeouts in the first 26 plate appearances of his career.

2020

Did not see official game action after the minor league season was cancelled due to the pandemic…following the resumption of the regular season in July, was invited to the Alternate Training Site in Arlington where he participated in workouts and scrimmages alongside fellow Texas farmhands… did not appear in Fall Developmental League in Arizona…was 0-for-1 with a walk and run scored in three Spring Training ‘A’ game appearances prior to the shutdown...played 16 G for Vaqueros of the Colombian Winter Baseball League after the season, recording more walks (12) than strikeouts (10).

2019

Led Texas farmhands in SB (33) and BB (78) while compiling career bests in several offensive categories, including OBP (.413), H (120), and RBI (50) over 122 G at Frisco and Down East…named a Carolina League mid-season All-Star and was recognized as CL Player of the Week for 4/22-28 after reaching base 16 times in six games…posted a 25-G on-base streak with DE from 4/20-5/15, 6th-longest in the CL in 2019… played for Auckland in the Australian Baseball League following the season, batting .229 (19-83) in 27 G...named as having the best strike-zone discipline in the Texas organization (Baseball America).

2018

Combined to bat .261 (97-372) in 119 G with Hickory (Low-A) and Frisco…ranked among South Atlantic League leaders in stolen bases (2nd, 44) and walks (3rd, 58) while leading the Crawdads in both categories…named Texas Organization All-Star by MiLB.com.
