Nimmo exits with hamstring tightness, hopes to play Friday in Detroit

ARLINGTON -- Rangers right fielder exited Wednesday’s 3-0 win over the Yankees with right hamstring tightness.

Nimmo initially felt it when he hit an infield single to load the bases in the fifth inning. He thought he would be OK to run the bases, but he was visited by a trainer after running from second to third on a grounder later in the frame.

Sam Haggerty replaced Nimmo on the basepaths and in the outfield the following inning. Manager Skip Schumaker said after the game that Nimmo feels good and will likely be day to day, though Nimmo said he’s confident he’ll be able to play Friday in Detroit. Whether that’s at DH or right field is to be determined.

Nimmo missed time due to hamstring strains in 2017 and '21 with the Mets, but he has not struggled with the issue since.

“I'm not concerned about it,” Nimmo said postgame. “It just is something that, if you continue to push through, can turn into something bigger. That's been something that we focused on in the last four or five years, being really cautious about it.”

If Nimmo needs an injured-list stint, it would be a major blow to a struggling offense that is already without Wyatt Langford, who has been down with a Grade 1 right flexor strain since April 22.

Nimmo, whom the Rangers acquired from the Mets this offseason, reached base twice before the injury. He has a .290 average with an .824 OPS in 31 games as Texas’ leadoff hitter.
