Borden acquired as final piece of Rodriguez trade

The Rays have acquired Minor League pitcher Buddy Borden from the Pirates as the player to be named in the trade for Sean Rodriguez. The team also signed three players to Minor League contracts with invitations to Major League Spring Training: catcher Bobby Wilson, outfielder Corey Brown and infielder/outfielder Eugenio Velez.

Borden, 22, made 26 starts with Class A West Virginia this year. The right-hander was a seventh-round pick by the Pirates in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. Rodriguez was designated for assignment by the Rays on Nov. 26 and dealt to Pittsburgh on Dec. 1.

Wilson, 31, has played parts of six seasons in the big leagues, most recently with Arizona this past season. He's appeared in 193 games between the Angels and D-backs since 2008 and has a lifetime .209 average.

Brown, 29, comes from the Red Sox organization. He spent the majority of this season with Triple-A Pawtucket, collecting 17 home runs in 91 games. He was selected by Oakland with the 59th overall pick in the '07 First-Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma State University after attending H.B. Plant High School in Tampa.

Velez, 32, was with the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate in Nashville this year. He's appeared in 259 Major League games over parts of five seasons with the Dodgers and Giants.

Pitchers and catcher report to Spring Training Feb. 21, and the full squad reports Feb. 26.
